Obituary For Zygmunt Arnold Ostaszewski
July 28, 1940 - June 25, 2026
It is with great sadness that Zygmunt Arnold Ostaszewski lost his battle with liver cancer and passed away on June 25, 2026, at the age of 85.
He was born on July 28, 1940, in Webster, Alberta, and was one of 9 siblings.
In 1968, he met Geraldine Geerlings, and on April 11, 1969, they wed, and moved to the Hines Creek/Fairview area in 1973. They had 4 children, which kept them quite busy.
If anyone knew Zig, they would tell you his love language was food. He was always cooking something; stews, soups, cabbage rolls, and putting his own twist on it, and usually making enough to feed a small army.
He was an avid fisherman and hunter in his younger years, and provided well for his family. He worked for Alberta Transportation in Hines Creek for many years as a grader operator/snowplow operator, which then became Laprairie Group Contractors. He retired in 2004 when he was 64, and then started his hobby of woodworking which he absolutely loved.
In 2014, Zig and Geri sold the farm and moved to Grande Prairie, Alberta.
He was predeceased by his son David (1994), brothers Ron, Walter, and Richard, and sisters Wanda, Jean, and Irene.
He will be remembered by his loving wife of 57 years Geraldine (Denie), son Wade (Karen), son Paul (Corinne), daughter Janet (Patrick), 7 grandchildren Megan, Talia, Deegan, James, Brian, and Allen, 6 great-grandchildren, brothers Vic and Ted (Laurie), brothers-in-law Ben (Pauline), John (Heather), and Jeff, and numerous nieces and nephews.
There will be a small service to be held at Bear Creek Funeral Home in Grande Prairie on July 18, 2026, at 11:00am with a small luncheon and fellowship to follow.
Interment will be held after the luncheon, which will be for immediate family.

My heart is saddened by this passing. Zyg was the kindest most loving and generous man I ever knew and he will be sadly missed. I love you uncle Zyg. Condolences to Denie and his family
