It is with deep sadness that the family of Royce Bernard Peterson announce his passing on July 11, 2026 at the age of 90, with his loving family by his side.

Royce was born July 29, 1935, to Clarence and Valborg Peterson on the family farm in Valhalla, Alberta. He came from a family of 9, having 5 brothers and 3 sisters. He attended Molde school and as a teenager he worked for various farmers in the area. Royce worked for Imperial Oil and later MacMillan Construction but farming was his true passion in life. In 1964 while running an expediting crew In Inuvik, NWT he met Gladys Petroskey who was nursing at the Inuvik General Hospital. They were married on October 23, 1965 in Innisfree, Alberta and spent 60 wonderful years together. In 1969 they moved to their homestead in Bonanza, Alberta where together they farmed for over 30 years and raised their two daughters.

Royce will forever be remembered by his wife Gladys Peterson, daughters Trudy (Darrell) Hodges, Monique Peterson, grandchildren ; Bradley(Samantha), Letisha(Grey), Kameron, Bryce and his four great grandchildren Rivir, Zayan, Callen and Nodin Hodges; Siblings Joyce Tofteland, Gordon(Dorothy) Peterson, Arlene Barry; Sisters in law Corinne(Walter), Goldie, Darlene, Lillian Petrowski, Marion Petroskey, Brothers in law: Ron Petroskey, Clarence Petrowski.

He was predeceased by his parents Clarene and Valborg Peterson; his in-laws Daniel and Julia Petrowski; brothers Glenn, Lawrence, Kelly, Lloyd and his sister Ruth; brothers in law Ordian Carlstad, Tommy Tofteland , Raymond Petrowski and sister’s in law; Margaret Peterson and Gloria Petroskey.

Those who knew Royce will remember his strong ethics, personal integrity, sense of humour and willingness to help out others . He was happiest when he was at his cabin hunting and visiting with his brothers, family and friends.

We would like to send our heartfelt thanks to amazing staff at Lakeview Lodge in Clairmont and the compassionate team in ICU at the Grande Prairie Regional Hospital. To friends and family who helped make Royce’s last few days a little brighter, thank you, we know it meant a lot to him.

The family will be hosting a Celebration of Life at the Hythe Legion on Sunday, July 26, 2026 @ 11:00 am. Please join us in remembering and honoring the life of a wonderful man we all knew.
