Obituary For Richard P. Cloutier

June 14, 1950 – July 12, 2026

It is with profound sadness that the family of Richard P. Cloutier announces his passing in Grande Prairie on July 12, 2026, at the age of 76. He suffered through his illness the past two years with quiet dignity.

Born June 14, 1950, to Alfred and Lucille Cloutier in McLennan, Alberta, he was accompanied by his twin brother Hector. Richard had five brothers and four sisters and grew up on the farm in the Girouxville area. His school years from grade one to nine were spent in Girouxville with the early years staying at the convent until the area was supplied with school buses. He went to high school in Donnelly. He had fond memories of cousins coming to visit and the usual boy shenanigans on the farm. He loved family celebrations and the food that came with them! In 1974 Richard married Paulette Audet and two daughters were born to that union, Nicole in 1977 and Joanne in 1978. He spent many years as a carpenter and as a private backhoe contractor. Richard was known for his conscientious work ethic and reliability. In 1995 Richard and Dawn joined forces and with that union also Dawn’s three kids (Erin, John & Jesse). The following years brought work, travel, a lot of house renovating and visiting kids as they spread across the country. He enjoyed his time spent on the acreage at the Narrows in Sturgeon Lake and later in Joussard on the Lesser Slave Lake. He enjoyed all sports, fishing, golfing & travel. He also loved babies and the grandchildren; Mathew, Leanne, Karras, Kalauni, Sophie, Waylon and Ollie brought him great joy. He could often be found playing with them, from on the floor to on the trampoline. The older grandkids had the luxury of many rides on Papa’s golf cart, going down to the fishing hole and learning to skate.

There are no words to describe the void that is now in all of our lives. We shall forever remember that the measure of the man is not measured by size but by his character. Although small in stature Richard was filled with strong ethics, deep personal integrity and consideration for his fellow man.

Richard was predeceased by his parents Alfred and Lucille Cloutier and his sister-in-law, Liz Cloutier, brother-in-law Henri Labbe.

He will forever be remembered by his partner in renovations of 31 years, Dawn Hampton, his daughters Nicole Cloutier, Joanne Laurin (Dan), bonus father to Erin Vandermade (Paul) John Fitzpatrick (Laura) and Jesse Fitzpatrick (Regan) and 7 grandchildren who loved their Papa, aka Pops. Sisters; Liliane Labbe, Gemma (John) Tokarz, Cecile (Ken Dufresne), Hector Cloutier, Roger (Mariette) Cloutier, Andy (Tana) Cloutier, Gilbert Cloutier, Jeannine (Darren) Dittmer, Guy (Kim) Cloutier and many nieces & nephews.

We would like to send our heartfelt thank you to everyone that was involved in Richard’s care, without their expertise and assistance our journey would have been much more difficult. Also to the family and friends that took time from their day to make his a little brighter, we thank you, it meant a lot to him.

Funeral service will be held at the Bear Creek Funeral Home on Thursday, July 30, 2026, at 2 p.m. with Father Christian officiating.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made in Richard’s name to Ronald McDonald House.

    Hanging out with Nicole at the acreage meant a lot of outdoor adventures, Richard had trikes and we often went riding. This one occasion Nicole and I went up Richmond hill and got the trike stuck in a muddy spot and couldn't get out. We walked all the way back to the acreage scared we were going to get in trouble, and Richard just said "well that's what trikes are for!" and came and rocked it a bit and drove it right out lol. He was a great guy, a beloved father and had a great sense of humor. I'll remember him always as his photo shows him, smiling and teasing and laughing. My condolences to all of his family and friends, he will be greatly missed.
