Obituary For Maureen Boyd

In loving memory of Maureen Ann Boyd, born on December 9th, 1957, who peacefully departed this life on March 5th, 2024, reuniting with her father Keith in heaven. Maureen, aged 66, succumbed to her courageous battle with cancer at Grande Prairie Regional Hospital. She leaves a profound void in the hearts of family and friends who cherished her deeply. Her absence is keenly felt by her grandchildren, children, and coworkers, as she played an indispensable role in their lives.

Maureen epitomized unwavering loyalty as a family member and friend. A devoted mother, grandmother, and friend, she fiercely protected and supported those she loved. Her expressions of love were vocal, and she never hesitated to celebrate and encourage the people she cared about.

Educated at Harry Balfour and GPRC, Maureen pursued bookkeeping classes and later met her former husband, Bob. Maureen continued to single parent and raised two wonderful children, Robyn and Ryan, who became the focal point of her life. Maureen dedicated herself to various local companies, balancing bookkeeping for small businesses with significant roles in trucking and communications companies. Her selflessness shone through as she worked tirelessly to support her children's pursuits in sports and music.

While creating lasting memories in arenas, ball diamonds, and parent hospitality rooms, Maureen prioritized her children's needs. In later years, she embarked on annual adventures to tropical destinations with friends Greg and Debbie Haglund, relishing diverse cultures, beaches, and oceans.

Maureen is survived by her children, Ryan Boyd (Christine Boyd) and Robyn Boyd, and grandchildren Austin, Jackson, Brody (Ryan), Kaleb, and Tristen (Robyn). She is also remembered by her mother, Ruth Boyd, and brothers Glen Boyd (Arlene, Stephanie, and Brandon) and Terry Boyd (Tracy, Taylor, and Mitchell). Preceded in death by her father, Keith Boyd.

A celebration of Maureen's life will take place at Bear Creek Funeral Home on March 13th at 2:00 PM. The family extends an invitation to all friends and loved ones to join in remembering Maureen and sharing cherished memories.

I used to go spend a couple of weeks in the summer with my Grande Prairie cousins, mostly with Maureen. We were young enough to spend time playing when I first went, and kept going into my teens. I was the city cousin and therefore easy to trick, but Maureen would always have my back. Summer days passing the time together - I gained a friend. When we had our kids and were geographically close we would make an effort to sit together in the stands in a rink or at a ball diamond or a swimming pool, grab a meal and share our important stuff. It was never frivolous. In more recent years when I was travelling the province for work we met up occasionally. These meetings tapered off as we got older, but it was so lovely to see and hear about the places Maureen had been and how happy she was; I'm sure we would have enjoyed sharing travel, and grandchildren, stories. I will miss you, Maureen. Donna Rae

Some of my fondest memories, are from the days when our kids were young, and our two families spent a lot of time together. We often went camping and fishing, but I think the times I liked best were when all of us gathered around our kitchen table playing cards. I especially relish the pitched battles between Maureen and myself in "hearts", or "oh hell". She was a formidable and unrelenting adversary. She was my wife - Joyce's -closest friend. Many times they leaned on each other, and they both went to great lengths to help each other out. In fact, that's how I became friends with Maureen: through her friendship with Joyce, and I guess I regard it as one of the great spin-offs of our marriage. I'll always be grateful for her unwavering loyal friendship to Joyce. She was a mother all the way through, and it showed in the fine job she did in raising Robyn and Ryan. For those of you who knew her folks, I think you'd agree she was a the perfect combination of Keith's solid determination, and Ruth's motherly giving. But then, she had to be. She was both mother and father to her kids, and my hat is off to her for the admirable way she carried it off. There was no thinking about it, or whining about how it could have been. She just hunkered down, did what needed to be done, and continued that family attitude for the rest of her days. It was obvious she had been raised in a family that took care of each other. It was a sad for me, my family, and many others when we learned of Maureen's passing. Her solid, down to earth personality will be greatly missed, but her memory and her much needed good example will remain here with all of us, and that's a gift from her no one can take away. Good by Maureen, and God bless you for the part you played in my life. Dell
