Obituary For Beverly Thomas

February 16, 1955 – July 10, 2026

It is with great sadness that we announce the unexpected passing of Beverly Thomas at the Grande Prairie Regional Hospital.

Bev Thomas was born in Newfoundland, where she developed the warmth, resilience, and spirit she carried throughout her life. In 1996, she moved to Alberta with the love of her life and her teenage daughter, beginning a new chapter while always staying true to her Newfoundland roots.

Bev spent much of her career in retail, where her friendly nature and kindness helped her build lasting friendships. She had a special way of making everyone feel welcome and valued.

She enjoyed the simple pleasures in life—cards, bingo, puzzles, yard sales, and especially time with her beautiful granddaughter, who shared so much of her spirit. Their bond was truly special.

Bev will be remembered for her generous heart, infectious laughter, and unwavering loyalty. She was never afraid to stand up for the people she loved or for what she believed was right. Her compassion, strength, and humor touched everyone who knew her.

Even after nearly 30 years in Alberta, Bev remained a proud Newfoundlander at heart. Her familiar expressions—“Luvs ya,” “Yes b’y,” and “Oh, me nerves”—along with her warm smile and loving heart, will be deeply missed and forever cherished.

Though our hearts are broken, we will be forever grateful for the love, laughter, and memories she gave us. Her spirit will live on in all who were fortunate enough to know and love her.

Bev will be lovingly remembered by her daughter Kala (Richard) Chauvin, granddaughter Sadie Chauvin, brothers Joseph (Margaret) Thomas and Fraser Thomas, sisters-in-law Susan Sharp Thomas, Fern (Randy) King Hayter, brother in law Jerry (Debbie) King as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and many great friends from coast to coast.

She was pre-deceased by her spouse Dennis King, daughter Tara Kelly, parents Clifford and Beulah Thomas, brothers Ross Thomas, Goldstine Thomas, Duane Thomas and her sister Florence Flood.

A celebration of Bev’s life will be held on Saturday, August 8th, 2026 from 1:00pm - 4:00pm in the Ovintiv room in the Tara Energy Service Centre at Evergreen Park (55051 Township Road 710, Grande Prairie, Alberta).

    Awe I just now came across this post. My condolences to her family and friends especially her daughter and granddaughter who she always talked about when I chatted with her. I had the privilege of working with Bev in Upper Long Fish n Chips in GP, for a few short months. We had lots of laughs and talks during and every time I saw her in Grand Prairie Giant Tiger. I moved back east in May 2024 and haven't seen her beautiful face since. Fly High with the Angels Bev Thomas. 🙏❤️🌹

    So sorry to hear of Bevs passing.She was a strong, loving woman who loved her family fiercely. She was always laughing and joking around at Costco where she worked for me at Pwd, her and sandy getting into all kinds of shenanigans.You could hear that laughter all over that warehouse.I have many wonderful memories of her, she certainly loved her work and interacting with the customers.     I met Bev at Giant Tiger. She made shopping there a pleasure for everyone. She always smiled and asked what you were up to today. Getting her work done and being the Best Sales Person ever and always being kind to everyone came easy for her. When I walked into the store I always knew in the first 2 minutes if Bev was working or not. If she was working you could always hear a good chuckle coming from her. If she wasn't there it was always so quiet. She had a way with making everyone feel welcome . God Love her and her bag of candy or treats she'd have on her work cart. The store sure feels empty without her and her warmth and kindness. Condolences Kala and Family. I didn't know you but I'm sure your mom blessed you with her good natured way.     Kala, Richard and little princess Sadie. I'm deeply saddened to hear that Mom ( Bev) passed away. Im so thankful to have many years getting to know bev when I was living in Grande Prairie and honor to be a good friend with her. We shared many times together and workjng at Walmart together. Many breaks was spent with her and laughs and chats. On our days off we would meet up or see one another out shopping. Kala I've gotten to know you through momma to and one thing for certain was the love she had for you and she made it know you was her lught in her life when she was gonna be grandma she was overjoyed. She said she gonna be so spoiled. She was right. The newfie never left bev she wasn't afraid to let our our slang out either, she could be a fire cracker to She wasnt afraid to let people know certain things right or wrong her opion was gonna be said. a great friend and Co worker with a big heart of gold. Gonna miss our chats and updates of the families. Moving back to Nfld in 2012 was hard to leave her but she promised me we would stay in touch and we sure did. She always say im alright and never complained about nothing to worry anyone. Bet when she was down and out she say im fine by, lol Fly high beautiful lady gonna miss you and thanks for being you.     Kala and Family, I am so sorry to know mom had passed.. My condolences to you all.. I met bev many years ago when she was working in Walmart with wanda, what good times we had.. George often ran in to her and played catch up on how everyone was doing and getting all the scoop.. They always end with see ya later and luv ya ..
